Today is the 148th anniversary of Komitas Vardapet,the composer,the anthropologist,musician,composer and the Armenian par excellence. Komitas’ birthday should be celebrated all around the world by all Armenians, for his life and legacy is the celebration of Armenian music, talent, musical identity and uniqueness. Komitas’ work is the very locus where Armenian music finds embodiment for it’s most crystallized and idealized forms. A scientist and composer of unprecedented brilliance, the genius of Komitas has been crucial in defining the uniqueness of Armenian music ,and has been instrumental in mapping its further path and glorious progress.
